After doing this for every position, we look at the mex of the resulting array and want to maximize it over all possible choices of $b_i$.
The mex is the smallest non-negative integer that does not appear after the transformation. So for a prefix of length $i$, the answer is the largest $k$ such that we can force all values $0,1,\dots,k-1$ to appear somewhere in the transformed prefix.
The constraints are tight in the usual competitive programming sense: up to $2 \cdot 10^5$ total length across test cases, and values up to $10^6$. This rules out anything quadratic in $n$, and also rules out any solution that expands per-element behavior into large per-value simulations without careful amortization. Anything involving matching or greedy simulation must run in essentially linear or near-linear time.
A subtle failure case for naive thinking comes from assuming each element independently contributes a simple range of achievable values. For example, it is tempting to think we can just compute a “cap” per element and greedily take smallest missing numbers. That breaks when many elements compete for the same small values.
Consider a prefix like $[3,3,3]$. Each element can produce $0,1$, or $3$. A naive greedy might assign $0$ to one element and $1$ to another, concluding mex is $2$. But if you instead had $[1,2]$, both elements are needed carefully, and incorrect assignment choices can block reaching mex $2$. The issue is that each element is reusable for at most one target value, so this is a constrained assignment problem rather than independent feasibility checks.
Approaches
The brute-force approach is conceptually straightforward: for a fixed prefix, enumerate every possible choice of $b_i$, compute the resulting transformed array, and compute its mex. Even if we restrict attention to only “reasonable” $b_i$, the number of combinations is exponential in the prefix length. This is completely infeasible even for $n=30$, since each position has many valid choices of $b_i$, and we must consider coordinated assignments across all positions.
The key simplification comes from understanding what values a single element can generate. For a value $x = a_i$, choosing $b > x$ makes the remainder equal to $x$, so the original value is always achievable. More interesting is that for any $r < x$, we can force $x \bmod (x-r) = r$ whenever $x > 2r$. This means every element can produce all small values up to roughly half its value, plus its own value.
So each position contributes a set of “reachable mex candidates”: all integers from $0$ up to $\lfloor (a_i-1)/2 \rfloor$, and additionally the value $a_i$ itself.
Now the problem becomes: for each prefix, can we assign distinct indices to cover all integers from $0$ upward? Each number $x$ needs one index that can produce it. This is a matching problem between values and indices, but structured enough that a greedy construction works as we extend prefixes.
Instead of recomputing from scratch for each prefix, we maintain a growing set of available indices and attempt to extend the current achievable mex as far as possible.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We process prefixes incrementally while maintaining the current maximum mex $k$ that we have successfully constructed so far.
Each index $i$ contributes two kinds of usefulness. First, it can support all values $x \le \lfloor (a_i-1)/2 \rfloor$. Second, it can exclusively support the value $a_i$. This separation is important because the “small values” behave like interval coverage, while the exact value behaves like a special single-use fallback.
We maintain three pieces of state as we scan the array.
We maintain a pointer $k$, the current mex we have successfully built so far.
We maintain a pool of indices that can support small values $x \le k$, meaning their $a_i$ is large enough so that $\lfloor (a_i-1)/2 \rfloor \ge k$. These indices remain usable for all current and future small values as long as they stay valid.
We also maintain buckets by exact value, storing indices with $a_i = v$ that have not been used yet.
At each prefix step, when a new element arrives, we insert it into both structures. Then we try to extend the mex as far as possible.
For each candidate value $x = k$, we try to assign one unused index that can produce $x$. We prefer using an index whose exact value equals $x$, because those indices are useless for any other value. If no such index exists, we take any index from the general pool that still has enough capacity to support $x$. Once an index is used, it is removed from all structures.
We repeat this process while we can successfully assign indices to consecutive values. The first value that cannot be assigned stops the process, and that value is the mex for the current prefix.
The key invariant is that after processing value $x-1$, we have assigned distinct indices to all values $0,1,\dots,x-1$, and every remaining unused index is still available for any future assignment consistent with its capability. When we try to assign $x$, if both the exact bucket and the general pool fail, it means no unused index can produce $x$, so extending the mex is impossible. Conversely, if an assignment exists, the greedy choice of using exact matches first never harms future feasibility, since exact indices cannot help for other values anyway.

The implementation keeps a global mex pointer that only moves forward, which avoids recomputing anything per prefix. Each index is inserted once and removed once, so heap operations remain amortized logarithmic. The exact-value buckets are simple stacks with lazy cleanup for already-used indices.

Edge Cases
A corner case arises when many elements share the same small value. For input like $[0,0,0,0]$, each prefix must still correctly report mex $1$, since only one index is ever needed to produce $0$. The algorithm handles this because once one index is consumed for value $0$, remaining indices cannot contribute to extending mex beyond $1$.
