Because n is at most 200, an algorithm with time complexity up to roughly O(n^2 * 3) is feasible. Naive solutions that try all permutations of parts will fail because the number of permutations is n!, which is astronomical even for small n.
An edge case occurs when there are parts that can all be completed on a single computer with no dependencies. A naive approach that doesn’t consider starting at the optimal computer may unnecessarily add a travel cost. For example, with one part on computer 1, the minimal time is 1, not more.
Another subtle case involves the asymmetric travel times: moving from computer 2 to 1 takes 2 hours, while moving from 1 to 2 takes only 1. If the algorithm treats all moves as equal, it will over- or underestimate the total time. Dependencies also force the order in which parts can be completed, so completing parts in computer-optimal batches isn’t trivial.
Approaches
The brute-force approach would attempt every order of completing the parts while respecting dependencies, calculating the time for each sequence including moves. This is correct in principle, but the number of sequences is factorial in n, around 200! in the worst case, which is infeasible.
The key observation is that the dependency graph is a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG). We can process the parts in topological order, which respects dependencies. Once we have a topological sequence, the problem reduces to scheduling parts on three computers to minimize movement time. Because there are only three computers, we can maintain dynamic programming states representing the minimal time to reach each computer after completing some number of parts. Specifically, dp[i][c] represents the minimum time to complete the first i parts ending at computer c. Transitioning to the next part involves either staying on the same computer if the next part is on the same machine, or paying the travel cost if not.
This transforms the factorial brute-force problem into a dynamic programming problem over the number of parts and the number of computers, which is feasible for n up to 200.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Parse the input to extract
n, the computer assignments for each part, and the dependency list for each part. - Construct a DAG representation of the parts, tracking the in-degree of each node.
- Perform a topological sort using Kahn’s algorithm. Initialize a queue with all parts that have in-degree 0.
