With precomputation, each check is $O(1)$, but the number of partitions is exponential, roughly $2^{n-1}$, which is completely infeasible even for $n = 50$.
A more structured DP would define $dp[i]$ as the minimum number of segments covering prefix $1..i$, and try all previous split points. This gives $O(n^2)$ transitions. Even with constant-time feasibility checks per segment, this is too slow for $2 \cdot 10^5$.
The key observation is that within any valid segment, once the difference is determined, every next value is forced unless it is $-1$. This means we can greedily extend a segment as far as consistency allows, and only restart when consistency breaks.
The only real complication is that the difference of a segment is not known in advance. However, it is determined as soon as we encounter the first two fixed values in the segment. From that point on, every subsequent fixed value either agrees or forces a cut.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We process the array from left to right, maintaining the current segment and its implied arithmetic progression.
- Start a new segment at position 1. We do not yet know its common difference.
- Move forward until we encounter the first pair of known values that allows us to define a difference. If the segment has fewer than two fixed points so far, the difference remains undefined and the segment can adapt freely.
- Once we see two fixed values within the same segment, we compute the required difference $d$. This locks the segment’s structure completely.
- Continue scanning. For each new position:
- If the value is $-1$, it is always consistent and does not constrain anything.
- If it is known, we check whether it matches the expected value implied by the current segment.
