Problem Understanding
We have n + 1 cities. The first n cities lie on the x-axis at positions (x1, 0), (x2, 0), ..., (xn, 0). One additional city is somewhere off the axis at (x_{n+1}, y_{n+1}).
The king starts from city k. He must visit every city at least once, can revisit cities if useful, and may finish anywhere. Every pair of cities is connected directly with Euclidean distance cost. We need the minimum total travel length.
The geometry matters a lot here. Except for one special point, every city lies on a single line. That structure completely changes the problem. A general traveling salesman problem would be impossible for n = 10^5, but a line has a very rigid optimal traversal pattern.
The constraints immediately rule out anything quadratic. With 10^5 cities, even O(n^2) distance transitions would already mean around 10^{10} operations. We need something essentially linear after sorting or preprocessing. Since the input cities on the axis are already given in index order in the original problem, we can exploit interval properties and avoid any heavy graph algorithms.
There are several subtle cases that break naive reasoning.
One dangerous case is when the starting city is the off-axis city itself.

A careless solution might assume the optimal route always starts by sweeping left or right along the axis, but here the first move already costs diagonal distance. The optimal route is:
(5,5) -> (0,0) -> (10,0)
with total length:
sqrt(50) + 10.
Another subtle case appears when the off-axis city lies outside the segment covered by the axis cities.

The special city is far to the right at (100,1). The optimal route is not symmetric anymore. One side traversal becomes much more expensive than the other. Any implementation that assumes the special city behaves like another point on the line will underestimate distances.
A third trap is assuming the route must end at an extreme city on the x-axis.

The special city (50,100) is extremely far upward. The best strategy may finish there instead of returning through the line. Since ending anywhere is allowed, one traversal branch can terminate at the special city and save a huge amount of backtracking.
These cases force us to think carefully about what an optimal walk on a line actually looks like.
Approaches
A brute-force viewpoint is useful first. We could think of the cities as a complete weighted graph and search for the shortest route visiting all nodes. That immediately resembles traveling salesman variants. Even dynamic programming over subsets would require O(2^n n) states, which becomes absurd beyond about n = 20.
The reason brute force conceptually works is that every valid route is simply an ordering of visits. If we enumerate all possibilities, eventually we find the shortest one. The failure is purely computational.
The key observation is geometric. All cities except one lie on a straight line. On a line, visiting all points has a very constrained structure.
Suppose we ignore the special city for a moment. If you start at some axis point and must visit every axis city, the optimal walk can only behave in one meaningful way: eventually you cover the entire interval from the leftmost city to the rightmost city. Revisiting interior segments unnecessarily only increases distance.
That means the whole problem reduces to deciding where the special city is inserted into this interval traversal.
Another crucial insight is that an optimal route visits the special city exactly once. Any second visit would create an avoidable cycle because Euclidean distances satisfy triangle inequality.
Now consider the axis cities. Any optimal traversal of the line can be interpreted as:
- Sweep one side from the starting point.
- Sweep the other side.
- Connect to the special city at exactly one place, either at the beginning or the end of one sweep.
Once you formalize this, only a constant number of candidate routes remain.
The cleanest formulation is to separate two cases.
If the starting city is the special city, we simply need the shortest route from that point that covers the whole axis interval. The optimal answer becomes:
interval_length + min(distance to left end, distance to right end)
Otherwise, the start lies on the axis. Then the optimal route is equivalent to traversing all axis cities while treating the special city as an endpoint attached somewhere. We can enumerate whether the special city is visited before or after covering one side.
This gives a linear-time solution after simple preprocessing.

Algorithm Walkthrough
Case 1: starting city is the special city
If k = n + 1, the king starts at the off-axis point.
To visit all axis cities, he must eventually cover the entire segment from the leftmost x-coordinate to the rightmost x-coordinate. That mandatory cost is:
x[n] - x[1]
Before traversing the segment, he must first reach either the left end or the right end.
So the total becomes:
- Distance from special city to leftmost axis city, plus interval length.
- Distance from special city to rightmost axis city, plus interval length.
We take the minimum.
Case 2: starting city lies on the axis
Now the start is at position x[k].
Any optimal traversal of the axis cities has this structure:
- Fully clear one side of the start.
- Fully clear the other side.
- End somewhere without unnecessary backtracking.
The only complication is where the special city is attached.
We define:
base = x[n] - x[1]
This is the unavoidable cost for covering the full axis interval.
If we finish on the left side, then the right side traversal must be doubled. Similarly for the opposite direction.
We evaluate four possibilities:
- Finish at leftmost city, visit special city from right side.
- Finish at leftmost city, visit special city from left side.
- Finish at rightmost city, visit special city from left side.
- Finish at rightmost city, visit special city from right side.
Each formula is just:

More concretely, suppose we finish on the left. Then we must return across the right side:

Then we attach the special city either from x[k] or from x[n], whichever matches the chosen route shape.
We compute all candidate values and take the minimum.
Why it works
The invariant is that every axis city lies on a single interval. Any valid route visiting all of them must cover the entire segment between the extreme x-coordinates.
Whenever the route changes direction inside the interval more than necessary, some subsegment is traversed extra times. Since all edge weights are Euclidean distances and the axis cities are collinear, removing redundant backtracking never increases cost.
That reduces every optimal solution to a simple sweep structure with at most one doubled side. The special city contributes exactly one diagonal edge because revisiting it would create a removable cycle by triangle inequality.
Since the algorithm enumerates every possible sweep endpoint and every possible attachment point for the special city, one of the tested candidates matches the optimal route.

The helper dist() computes Euclidean distance using math.hypot, which avoids manual squaring and is numerically stable.
The first branch handles the special case where the starting city is the off-axis point. The route must first reach one interval endpoint and then sweep the whole axis segment exactly once.
The more interesting part is the second branch. Here the starting point already lies on the axis. The formulas correspond to the four canonical optimal route shapes.

The n == 1 case also deserves separate handling. There is only one axis city, so the answer is simply the direct distance between the two cities.
