From the input, we know n can be as large as 100,000 and m up to 100,000. This rules out any algorithm with O(n^2) complexity, since 10^10 operations would be far too slow for 2 seconds. Road weights can be large (up to 10^9), so we must be careful to use 64-bit integers in languages with fixed-width types.

A naive approach could be to simulate all paths visiting portal cities, but this would essentially require exploring all permutations of k portals. With k potentially up to 100,000, this is completely infeasible. Another trap is assuming portals can be "skipped" via teleportation before any portal is open-doing so would underestimate travel times. A small example shows this: three cities 1-2-3, all with portals, weights 1,1,1. If the player goes 1->3 directly without first opening 2, teleportation does not apply. The correct minimal travel time is 2, not 1.

Another subtlety is that the first city might itself have a portal. In that case, teleportation can start immediately. For instance, if city 1 has a portal and city 2 also has one, the player can visit city 2 directly and then return instantly to 1 if needed, but in this problem, the final position does not matter-only opening all portals does.

Approaches

The brute-force approach is to compute all paths visiting portal cities in all possible orders. We could first precompute all shortest paths between portal cities and then try every permutation. This would be correct, but for k up to 10^5, it becomes O(k!)-impossible. Even for small k, the precomputation of all-pairs shortest paths using Floyd-Warshall is O(n^3), also too slow.

The key insight is that once a portal is opened, teleportation allows moving between any two opened portals instantly. This means that we never need to traverse more than one edge between clusters of portal cities. This reduces the problem to a minimum spanning tree (MST) over portal cities, where edges are shortest-path distances between cities.

To compute these shortest-path distances efficiently, we can run Dijkstra's algorithm from all portal cities simultaneously using a multi-source priority queue. This will label each city with the shortest distance to any portal. Then, connecting portal cities via their shortest paths essentially forms a graph where the MST gives the minimal total distance needed to connect all portals, since teleportation allows "shortcutting" any previously visited portals.

Finally, because the player starts at city 1, if it is not a portal city, we need the shortest path from city 1 to any portal to start the journey. Adding this as an initial edge completes the calculation.

Algorithm Walkthrough

  8. Output the total time as the minimum required to open all portals.
