This gives a correct but prohibitively slow O(k) per query solution.
The first improvement is to separate the problem into two fundamentally different structures. One part depends only on how far each point is from the closest existing coverage interval, and the other depends on whether a single tower can be stretched to cover both points simultaneously.
For a single point, each tower defines a fixed interval of zero cost, and outside that interval the cost grows linearly with slope 1. This turns the problem into finding the minimum distance from a point to a set of segments. That structure can be reduced to checking whether the point lies inside any segment and otherwise finding the closest segment endpoint.
The harder part is the “single tower covers both points” case. For a tower at position x with height h, the cost for a query (l, r) becomes the maximum of two linear distance deficits. This creates a minimization over functions of the form max of two affine expressions, split by whether x is left of l, between l and r, or right of r. Handling all cases efficiently requires grouping towers by position and maintaining range-optimized data structures over their parameters.
The final solution combines two independent computations per query: the best solution using two separate towers and the best solution using one tower. The two-tower case becomes a simple sum of independent point queries. The one-tower case is reduced to a structured minimum over piecewise-linear functions using a segment tree over tower positions with convex hull style evaluation inside nodes.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Preprocess each tower into an interval of zero cost coverage, defined by its left and right reach after current height.
Each tower at position x with height h covers [x − h, x + h]. Any point inside this interval requires no cost for that tower. 2. Build a structure that can answer, for any point p, the minimum extra cost needed for some tower to cover it.

Why it works
